Sony doesn't want to let the PS2 die, despite the fact that they also seem to be trying to get the PS3 out the door. The rumor around the water cooler is that Sony will be releasing yet another slimed down version of the PS2 with a built in power supply. St this point, doesn't everybody have a PS2? If they release another version, it would seem that it would fall upon a quiet market.

nope - and this is a kind of reiteration of the earlier comment on the same subject
the ps2's library is proven and large. the ps3 isn't.
the ps3 is also $300 more than the ps2. as much as parents want to splooge on their kids around the holidays, not everyone can drop that much money consistently on entertainment for their children.
especially when cheaper alternatives are right in front of them. sony will be leaning on the ps2 crutch for some time
